Cutting the wedding cake is an important tradition that many guests will stay for. Your wedding cake will be the focal point of the dinner and the reception so it is important to impress with it. Take your time to choose the perfect wedding cake; it will be in many of your photographs.

The more traditional cakes are usually three tiered and covered with white royal icing. Nowadays however, you can choose from hundreds of different cakes in all shapes, sizes, colours and flavors. However, there are some factors to take into consideration when choosing your cake:
Size: The size of your cake will be determined mostly by the number of guests you invite to the big day. Keep in mind those who won’t be attending, but will still be sent a slice when determining how big or small your wedding cake needs to be.
The Design: View the portfolios of different bakeries. Wedding magazines often feature many different cake designs to give you some extra inspiration. Alternatively, you can design your own cake if you can’t find something you like.
Flavour: As well as appealing to the eyes, your cake should also appeal to your taste buds, otherwise you will have spent money on a cake that actually, doesn’t taste particularly nice. Nowadays there are endless flavours and textures to choose from. Opt for vanilla, chocolate, fruit cake, cheesecake, sponge or even a cake with a mousse filling. The best thing about variety is that if you cannot decide, you can have different flavoured tiers.
Plan and choose your cake well in advance of the wedding to avoid going without one altogether!
