Tell us a little bit about The Cake Cuppery

The Cake Cuppery was established in the summer of 2011 and is a home bakery based in Lucan, County Dublin. What started as a love for baking and art soon became a cupcake obsession.

We specialise in creating bespoke vintage, romantic and classic cupcakes designs with matching cupcake cakes and top cakes. All our cupcakes are made with the finest organic, fair trade and free range ingredients and decorated with handmade edible decorations.

Over the next few months we will be introducing new products, such as cake pops, mini cakes and dessert tables.

What style of cakes would you recommend for a romantic wedding day?

When I think of a romantic wedding day I imagine soft pastel colours such as lilac, dusky pink, pale peach and ivory incorporated into a cutting cake and matching cupcakes. Handmade decorations such as pearls, brooches, embossed hearts, bows and flowers such as roses and cherry blossoms create a beautiful romantic vintage feel to a wedding cake display. Adding a splash of deep turquoise and gold can add a touch of drama to the soft colours.

Vintage birdcages have become popular for romantic shabby chic style weddings. These birdcages can be incorporated into our cupcake and top cake designs using bird cage stencils and beautiful sugar love birds.

How can brides add a bit of vintage nostalgia to their wedding cakes?

Nothing says vintage like brooches and pearls. Here at The Cake Cuppery we create beautiful edible pearls and various different kinds of vintage brooches to adorn our wedding cupcakes. All of our sugar brooches are dusted and hand painted with gold, bronze or silver colours to create a realistic wow factor.

Some of our future clients are creating their own vintage brooch bouquets instead of having traditional flower bouquets, allowing them to add special heirlooms such as sentimental brooches and jewellery passed on by loved ones. The Cake Cuppery can create fabulous sugar replications of our clients’ jewellery which can be incorporated into their wedding cupcakes for that extra touch of vintage nostalgia.

How can couples personalise their wedding cakes with The Cake Cuppery?

All of our cupcakes are bespoke, thus they are created based on the unique requirements of each couple while also in keeping with The Cake Cuppery style. We recently made cupcakes for a couple who based their wedding theme around The Botanic Gardens and wanted to incorporate flowers and tree branches into their cupcakes. We used floral embossers, and created hydrangeas, blossoms, roses and small trees to adorn the cakes.

Another personal touch is to add the bride and groom’s names to their wedding cakes on little sugar ribbons. Short phrases such as ‘I do’ and ‘Love is all’ can be made also and look beautiful delicately placed on a cupcake swirl surrounded by handmade pearls and embossed hearts.

What extra special finishing touches would you recommend for a romantic wedding day?

Over the past few months cupcake name settings for weddings have become very popular, especially for guests seated at the top table. Instead of a name card, we can create beautiful cupcakes with individual names to add another romantic and fun element to a wedding.

The Cake Cuppery can also supply beautiful jewelled cake stands and handcrafted wooden shabby chic tiered stands to add that extra special touch to a cake display.

China tea cups are a beautiful way to add something different to a cake table, they can be placed around the base of the cake stand with tea lights placed inside or perhaps scattered on the tiered cake stand with cupcakes.
