When picking out a type of wedding invitation, you will need to consider the kind of wedding you will be having. There are many different types of wedding invitations to choose from, for example:

Engraved Invitations: Engraving is a form of printing and is only really used for very formal weddings. A copper plate is used when engraving and the wording of your invitation is carved on to the copper plate. This plate is put in the press, inked and the paper is then printed with this copper plate. This type of printing leaves raised letters on the paper, hence the term engraved. These types of invites can be very costly and are mostly used in formal weddings where a budget does not restrict the couple.

Thermo Graphed Wedding Invitations: Engraved invitations look much more elegant and most people would prefer to have them for their wedding if it weren’t for the cost. If you are on a smaller budget that cannot cater for engraved invitations, you can turn to invites that use thermography instead. This kind of printing gives a similar effect to engraving, but without the added expense. During the process of thermography, the ink is mixed with small, dry particles which, when put to paper; gives the invitation a raised look which is very similar to engraving.

Off-set Printed Wedding Invitations: This is a type of printing that is usually used for business printing needs. They are very affordable but aren’t the best choice for weddings as they do not look particularly graceful.

Handwritten Wedding Invitations: Obviously, these are written by hand and usually on plain white letter sheets. They are not appropriate for formal weddings but perfect for small or informal gatherings.

Contemporary Wedding Invitations: While the most traditional wedding invitations are printed on white or ivory coloured paper, contemporary invites use different colours and designs, for example; flowers or a picture of a married couple. They are an excellent way to make a wedding invitation more personal but should not be used for especially formal weddings.

As well as everything we have listed above, computer printed wedding invitations, and those that use calligraphy are becoming increasingly popular. However, these are also not suitable for formal weddings.
