If you’re planning a luxurious wedding, there’s only one wedding styling company for you: Pearl & Godiva. Sheena McDonald Murray, part of the Pearl & Godiva styling team, explains how you can have the wedding of your dreams with impeccable style...

Total Decadence

After a number of years where vintage DIY chic has been so popular, we see discerning brides looking again towards timeless elegance and a more polished look. The key to creating a stunning and sumptuous wedding is to keep to the basics, but make them exquisite.

Our advice, when meeting any bride, is to find a design and style that really speaks to them. This is identifying an aesthetic that is in-keeping with their own personal style (the way they dress, how they style their home, even what books they read) and create their wedding look based on this knowledge. Trends come and go, but your innate style and timeless glamour is a constant.

Florals

Go big, and if in doubt, go bigger again! Nothing brings more WOW to a wedding than big draping florals — overflowing and spilling from containers, delectable plays of colour and texture — they can bring colour, interest and life to every element of your big day. Leading the way are incredible US based florists such as Flowerwild, Saipua and Honey of A Thousand Flowers, who have reinvented bridal florals, creating works of art that look like they should be captured by one of the Dutch Old Masters.

Think outside of the box and find spaces in your venue that could have florals worked through them... artfully dressed light fixtures, overflowing table top garlands, arrangements hanging from the ceiling, creeping tendrils wrapped around pillars, elaborate flourishes cascading down staircases. The venue is your canvas, and florals your paintbrush.

Stationery

Design, paper and finish are key when creating a decadent and luxurious stationery suite. Choose a medium that suits your overall aesthetic, be it sumptuous hand lettered calligraphy on butter soft paper, gorgeous letterpress on doorstop papers, intricately laser cut delights, or a combination of these styles.

The combinations and possibilities are endless. Incorporate in unexpected materials, from fabric and wood to hand-dyed bias-cut ribbons. Investigate the myriad of finishes and design details, from heat stamping crests into velvet, embossing, custom etching, metallic inks and foils, and hand-painting finishes. A bespoke illustration could be commissioned just for you, a forever keepsake of the most momentous moment of your life so far.

The Décor

The key is to stick with the essentials, but make them exquisite! Table dressing is a rich playground for sumptuous style. Choose textured linens, organic sheer silks, strokeable velvets and even bespoke screen printed organic cottons. Don’t overlook the dinnerware, stunning glasses and unexpectedly fabulous cutlery (gold dipped, antique silver) can bring your wedding design to another level.

The Details

Add layers of meaning and fabulousness with some finds that will be uniquely yours. Consider your overall style, your venue, your personal look, and find treasures to bring more even delight to your day. It could be an antique Chantilly veil, an 18th century wax crown or a piece of furniture or décor that resonates with you and your fiancé, which will work seamlessly with the look or your wedding.
