Weddings abroad in North America

The couple must apply in person at the Registry Division in Room 213 of Boston City Hall for a marriage intention application. This requirement applies to both residents and non-residents.

In Boston, proof of age is required if under the age of twenty-four. For proof of age, a certified birth record or passport is required.

There is a (3) three day waiting period to receive your license. The license is valid for (60) sixty days from the day you originally file and may be used in any city or town within the Commonwealth. This license cannot be used outside of this state. A waiver of the (3) three day waiting period can be applied for at the city or town clerk's office where you apply and then presented to a court of competent jurisdiction for approval.

The person who performs the ceremony of marriage must sign the license and return it to the city or town where it was issued. That is the only place where the license will be registered.

The legal age to marry is 18 years for both males and females

Proof of age is required. A certified copy of a birth certificate must be presented for anyone 18 years of age or under. A valid I.D. or driver’s license may be presented for anyone 19 years of age or over.

If previously married, proof of original divorce decree or death certificate needs to be presented to the marriage agent by the applicant if the divorce or death was final within 30 days of applying for a marriage license

For any person to lawfully marry in the State of Hawaii, a license for that purpose must be obtained from an authorized agent. Once the license has been issued, there is no waiting period before the marriage can take place.

Las Vegas has no minimum residency requirements for getting married

Original and copy of birth certificate for each party.

Original prenuptial medical certificate with test results of syphilis, HIV, and Rh factor (blood type).  This certificate should have been issued locally within the last 15 days.

Passports of both parties.

There are some legal aspects you will need to consider when getting married in New York.

You must wait 24 hours after obtaining a marriage licence to have the ceremony performed

You will need to apply for the marriage licence in person at the City or County Clerk's Office, this licence will be issued on the same day and is valid for 60 days

You must be 18 years of age to get married or 16 or 17 with parental consent

Only one member of the couple needs to apply for the license, but you will be asked to provide a signed piece of identification and proof of age for both parties to the intended marriage. Documents must be either originals or certified copies and must include the following information:

You do not have to be a British Columbia resident to be married in the province. However, you are required to get a Marriage Licence which is valid for a term of three months and only valid in British Columbia.

Anyone over 19 years of age is eligible to apply for a marriage licence in BC. If one or both individuals were recently divorced within the last 31 days, proof of divorce must be provided. No licence is issued until the courts finalize a divorce, normally 31 days after the divorce decree is issued by the Courts.
