Ryan and Mary first met when they were both expats in Bahrain - Ryan had lived there for nine years and Mary had just arrived.
The first meeting occurred in a bar where they passed on the stairs and Mary’s look caught Ryan’s eye. At first she dismissed it as a fleeting moment but little did she know that it would be the start of something very special!
A few months later, they met again at a Braai restaurant where Mary ended up giving Ryan a lift home. ‘We No Speak Americano’ by Yolanda Be Cool came on the radio and Ryan made Mary stop the car for a spontaneous dance on the sands!
This romantic gesture sealed the deal and two years of dating followed before Ryan popped the question.
The couple were due to leave Bahrain and go their separate ways to other countries – Ryan to Gambia and Mary to Iraq. Mary thought that they would never see each other again so Ryan had booked them a trip to South Africa as their ‘one last holiday’.
As a surprise, Ryan had booked them into the renowned Montecasino complex in Johannesburg. After heading out for dinner one night, Ryan mysteriously left the table to talk to the restaurant’s staff.
After a quick table move next to a live band, champagne then arrived at the table and Ryan got down on one knee. At first, Mary didn’t realise what Ryan was doing and thought he had dropped something on the floor!
When she realised that he was proposing and that he had placed the ring in the champagne, Mary of course said yes and they phoned their friends and family straight after dinner!
Ryan chose a beautiful diamond ring for Mary which she absolutely adored - she couldn’t have asked for anything better.
Because of their imminent move to separate countries, the couple did most of their two year wedding planning over Skype and the internet.
Despite the distance though, the happy couple managed to pull of the wedding of their dreams at Kinnity Castle in Offaly, Ireland.
