Good afternoon Ladies, Gentlemen, boys and girls. Well, it has been an emotional day. Even the cake is in tiers. Sorry. That one was a bit cheesy. Let me start off today with a quick introduction. For those of you who don’t know me, I am Ian Bradley and I will attempt to deliver a speech today. Also with me will be Matt Burrows with the toast. We together have the honour of being Tom’s Best Men.
It is our first time at writing a Best Man’s speech. So understandably we are a little nervous. If anyone else here is feeling nervous or apprehensive, you’ve probably just married Tom. Kylie is looking radiant today. All those amongst you who know Kylie well will know that she is a wonderful and caring person. She deserves a good husband. Thank god Tom married her before she found one.
Whilst writing this speech I cast my mind back to when Tom and I first started to become best friends. I’ll always remember growing up with Tom. Every evening after school, Tom would complete his paper round with me and my golden retriever walking beside him. Walking along the streets come rain or shine. We did a lot of paper rounds you and me... But above all else, I think the main reason why we’ve lasted all these years, is that you’re geographically convenient, and you had a trampoline. In a way, I feel like today is our last paper round together. And I’ve got a special delivery right here. It’s the tab from the bar when you’re ready.
Bringing us back to more recent times, both Tom and Kylie are keen explorers, and have travelled together to distant shores. From their backpacking adventure to Peru, I remember Tom telling me how he knew then that Kylie was the right woman for him. Upon reaching the summit of Machu Picchu, amongst the clouds and the inspiring ancient scenery, he looked over to Kylie, and knew right there and then, that she was the girl that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Even though, she hadn’t showered for weeks…
I have some thank-yous and messages to read out: let me start by thanking the Groom and Father of the Bride for their lovely speeches, the families of both Tom and Kylie for all their support, making this wonderful day possible, as well as for all friends and family members that are here with us today. It has truly been a wonderful day and something that I will remember for a long time to come.
Just some last messages here to read out: one from Tom’s football team – “Apologies we couldn’t all be here today, good luck with Tom, we found him to be useless in most positions, but wishing you all the best for tonight”. I do have to say though Tom, just how lucky you are. You will leave here today with a wife who is warm, loving and caring. A wife who is funny and radiates beauty wherever she goes. And Kylie, how lucky you are as well. You leave here today, having gained a lovely dress and a wonderful bouquet of flowers.
All joking aside, Tom has always been extremely generous and very loyal; he is good company and great fun. I know that as a friend, I could not ask for better and I know he will offer even more to his wife. And so, this brings the speech to an end. I am very proud to wish Tom and Kylie a happy day and for them to look forward to their honeymoon and a long prosperous life together…
